Summer Internships and Real Jobs!!!!!

I'm wondering how current and recently graduated Wellesley students are making out in the current economic climate?

Are students interested in summer internships getting them? Are graduates being hired in their chosen fields or are they taking whatever they can get merely to be employed?

Are Wellesley connections helpful and useful in pursuing these type of opportunities?

Is Wellesley's placement office helpful/instrumental in assisting those who seek help on these issues?

Thank you.

I’m not sure how much Wellesley was involved, but a friend of my daughter’s had a choice between spending her summer at a publishing internship and working for her state senator (?? not sure exactly who it was) after her first year at Wellesley.

My daughter (also just finished her first year), who is a science major, is working this summer with a professor and getting paid to do that. – the Science Center has a summer research program to which students can apply.

I think you might find it quite helpful.

About 1/3 of Wellesley students who apply for research in the Science Center during the summer get it.

Also, a bunch of Wellesley students do research at MIT during the summer because there are plentiful opportunities and because they are able to as cross registered students.

I wouldn’t be afraid about not being able to find internships to do as an undergrad at Wellesley- there are truly a lot of opportunities as long as you keep your eyes open and search for them.
