Hi. My daughter is a freshman at U of R and has applied for several internships for the summer. She will probably be finding out in the next month if she is accepted or not. If she doesn't get any of these, would it be too late to apply for internships and/or research opportunities offered on the U of R campus over the summer? Thanks for your help

She can always contact the prof[s] she is interested in working for and ask. Some may have open slots.

The deadlines for applying for summer undergraduate research grants were March 1 and March 15. (There is more than one program which funds UG summer research.) Typically, however, the grant programs are for students who are pursuing an independent research project.

The best resource to check to see if there are any paid or unpaid summer positions available would be the UR Career Center [Career Center @ University of Rochester](http://www.rochester.edu/careercenter/)

Thank you so much Wayoutwestmom!

The issue of the the UR Parent Buzz I received via email this morning has some information about internships from the director of the college career center.

What types of research opportunities are avialble for economics majors? I noticed that many of the examples inn the UR pamphlets were geared towards the natural sciences. Also, what class year are students who pursue these opportunities usually in?

UR runs well respected summer institutes in neuroscience, in medicine and in bench biology. (These are available to students from UR as well as students from other institutions. To apply for these programs you must be a rising junior or senior.)

AFAIK, UR does not have any special summer program similar to these for economics.

However, UR REACH grants (for summer research) are available for ANY major. The grant is competitive and the student must have arranged for a internship on campus (with a professor) PRIOR to applying.

PRG (Portable Research Grants) can also be used in any field.

PRG and REACH grants can be use any time after the completion of freshman year.
