i see. I want to become a Trader (called an Equities Sales-Trader or something?) and there's this Banking/Financial Services internship program offered at my school (ROP Class) that is taken during the summer. Well, this is BANKING and it's not really something related to what I want to become. Students had taken interns at the Bank of America, Western Financial Services, etc. Should I even bother taking this?

"does anybody know any business/finance related internship posititons?"

i go to a heavily recruited university, i get emails about these positions which equity trading firms/ibanks....etc post everyday.

Kevster> I would take it. Its better than nothing and definately better than working as a burger flipper. BTW are you in HS?

yes, im in HS

Can someone please answer my question? I'd really appreciate it....

oceangomute, probably not. There seems to be quite an infatuation with investment banking/private equity/hedge funds/ etc on these forums.

Okay but it was just a general question.

I wanted to know if it was worth keeping an internship over the summer as an incoming freshman. It wouldn't matter if I were into investment banking.

I just got confirmation of my internship last week. I'll be working in the front office of one of my father's friends (a doctor) for twenty hours a week in exchange for sitting in with him on different cases and general mentoring.
I was so excited when I got the letter! Good luck to all those that aren't set on their internships yet!

I'm a junior at Stuyvesant HS and I got an internship in the Morgan Stanley IT Dept. I was at first involved in a mentoring program where 10 stuy students were matched with a mentor at morgan stanley. since i'm doing a CS intel project, my mentor directed me to some people at morgan stanley that were doing document categorization and semantic analysis with vector space models
$10/hr...not much...but i have high hopes that i'll conduct some meaningful research...maybe even win some awards if it turns out well

I'm a junior and I'll be interning at a hospital over the summer...not really sure what I'm gonna do, but I think it's something like "shadowing" some of the doctors. No pay...which kinda sucks.

Hah...anyone think it's too late to start looking for lab stuff?

How do you get a internship at Morgan Stanley?

hi, i am an information systems major at virginia tech. i just finished by freshman year. I was wondering what kind of internships I should look for next summer and what are some good recruiting firms? I don't think I will have learnt much relevant to my major of interest. I will be taking Java next semester, and I should be pretty adept at MS office. I dont have any other experience besides some high school summer jobs. will it be hard for me to get any offers? i have a good gpa aswell

I'm interning at the Anti-Defamation Office in NYC, and i'll be paid $1,000 at the end of the summer....I can't wait! I plan on working in the International Relations or Criminal Justice departments

I'm interning (paid too) at a media production and design studio in columbus this summer( just graduated hs).. www.rotostudios.com

My friend used some family connections to intern for her sophomore, junior, and senior summers of hs.
summer 2004- intern at NYC DA's office
summer 2005- intern in biochemistry lab at Dartmouth (researching mad cow)
summer 2006- interning for a stock broker in jersey city.

look online and ask some local companies to start you up. Work any connection you have.
good luck

I've got an internship this summer at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in Ridgefield, CT. I didn't get this one through connections or solicitation, but rather, in November, they have a program called Partners in Science where students from many surrounding high schools come and are given tours of the labs/facilities/research, etc. At the end, there is an option to apply for the summer internship. There is an essay and interview selection process. This year, I think 5 or 6 were selected out of 31.

I hear from those who've done it in the past that Boehringer pays very well and that, though it is a lot of work (M-F 8am-4:30pm, give or take) it's worth it.

I'm doing an internship through our county government that does the networking for us. You apply through the government and they place you where you say your interests lie. It's paid but it was VERY competitive, trying to get in. They had group interview running for 2 weeks consisting of 8-10 people for interview in each sitting. And there was sitting I think ever 2-3 hours. And that was only after you got through their GPA and rank filter.

It was just crazy. I'm just glad I got in since I didn't even really expect to get in.

I'm assigned to Arcata Associates which does base contracting for the AFB here in Las Vegas. Engineering wasn't my first choice (it was Chemistry) but hey, it's better than doing something totally unrelated to my interests.

i have a paid intership at the department of education that pays well...i hope it looks good on a college app also

i gots me a paid internship at an intellectual property law firm, i do ***** work and research and draft documents to clients...not exactly exciting but it will look nice on a resume and i need the money

I'm interning at a media company that produces award shows.

Technically, I'm actually Marketing Coordinator. Got a title promotion on my first day (so i can be all professional and such when talking to potential advertisers).

I'm researching potential sponsors and helping restructure the way we advertise. Surprisingly no B itch work. It's nice. And paid.

Oh and they wanna keep me all year and most likely after graduation. Yay.
