Is anyone else having trouble getting a job for the summer, or for a limited number of months? Around here, in Indiana, a lot of fast food places are telling me that they're not willing to hire someone who can't stick around for a year or more. And these are fast food places. Jobs that most kids at my school won't take (And I go to a public school with poor students). I'm a 17 year old senior and I'm going to college in the fall, does anyone think they might be able to point me in the direction of a place that might want or need temp workers?

try tutoring... except I can't find a tutoring job either... wait...

Did you ask for part-time?

Yeah, I want to start working now, but I could do full-time during the summer.

I have the same problem, especially since I'm moving to a different state during the summer.

Are there any supermarkets in your area? Some of the places have students from my school working as stockmen or cashiers.

How do you apply? Do you just go in and ask for an application?

Yep, that's the deal. Just go in and fill one out. Many places should have signs somewhere in the window or outside, so I'd suggest keeping an eye out for something like that.

I usually ask a manager if they're hiring before taking an app, and, of course, I always apply to any place with a help wanted sign. I'm just striking out all over the board, usually because of the 1 yr thing.

Hm.. well I got my first job in the summer I turned 14, at Subway. I worked there <10 hours/week, just for the summer. I guess maybe it's cause it was family-owned, and they were pretty desperate for workers. They didn't even ask for a working permit haha..
