Summer Jobs

How do they expect us to have jobs when most jobs require you to be of a certain age? What do they mean by "summer jobs," and do you know where I could find any? Does volunteering count?

no one expects you to have jobs.

summer jobs = jobs you do in the summer

volunteering does not count since you don’t get paid

stoompy, I dunno where you are from but where I’m from there are a lot of people that hire (such as mcdonalds) if you are sixteen or over. So if you are older than sixteen, there are a ton of jobs out there. You jsut have to look for them. Try asking some friends or your schools where you can find a job. Also try going to random stores/restaurants and ask for job applications.

Disclaimer: having a job is in no way necessary for college. your first priority should be school, extracirrciulars, life, friends, etc.

I know plenty of Penn students who have never had a job for pay. Not that I encourage people to avoid minimum wage jobs during their summers, but it is in no way necessary to gain admission to college.

You can get hired at 16 or 17.

I’ve had two paying jobs since Freshman year. I got paid under the table when I was 15 and then got a new job when I was 16, so it is definitely possible to have a job in high school/before college.
