Summer language programs pre-college

Does anyone know of a university that has summer abroad (specifically, France) that accepts pre-college (that is, HS graduated) students? The ones I have found require at least freshman (and many soph) standing.
D wants to get a head start on her major- will be at 3rd year college level- as planning double major.

You could try Middlebury. I believe they have programs abroad. I know they have one of the best (maybe the very best) summer language schools in the US. This may be for college and/or grad students, but I teach high school foreign language, and we have received info from them about their programs, so you could check it out. Here are the addresses we have:

Not a university but a great program that I went to for a gap year between high school and college: [url=http://www.institut-touraine.asso.fr/]INSTITUT DE TOURAINE/url

Make sure that her college accepts summer credits in a language. I found out the hard way that my school does not. I took a summer program, worked my butt off, came into the 2nd year and they kicked me right out. However, they "sometimes" accept the credits if you went abroad. Anyway, just check it out first.

I don't have anything to offer, except to say that I think this is an excellent idea. Living in France for a while and studying there will allow your D to learn way more once she arrives at college. Really hit the ground running.

Back when, I studied Japanese in college for two years. Went to Japan junior year, but it was the summer program in-country that really taught me to speak Japanese. If at all possible try to get into a homestay program, that was the difference for me. I think I learned more in that 6 week summer program with a homestay family than I did in two years in college...

We were in Colby College (Maine) a couple of weeks ago, and our tour guide spent her first Freshman semester in France, sponsored by the school, even before she spent any time in Colby. I know you wanted a summer program, but socgirl123's concern about giving your D credits is a valid one.

Tufts has a program in France for H.S. students.

This thread is three years old.
