Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy (MMLA)
[Middlebury Monterey Language Academy](http://www.mmla.middlebury.edu/)

I did it last summer for French, it was great. There are all levels of language speakers, from people who had never spoken a word before to people who were almost fluent. They offered French, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic. All languages share a campus, but are totally separate because you’re only allowed to communicate in your target language. It’s intense but worth it.

There are language classes based on level in the morning, and then more relaxed electives in the afternoon, which are also slightly level based (there are only two levels). I could go on and on about the program, so if you’re interested, let me know.

Not to hijack your topic, but I’ve been wondering if there are any more affordable programs. I know Middlebury is THE place to go but it’s hard to justify spending so much money with college just around the corner.

Actually, D’s French professor advised her NOT to apply to Middlebury’s program. Not sure why. She suggested D look at stuff in Canada, which might be cheaper.

Concordia Language Villages offer Chinese. You can get a year of high school credit. Cost is $3,675 plus transportation for the credit program (I don’t know how much Middlebury’s program is, so can’t really compare it).

Does anyone know of a Spanish program in/near Texas? I have searched for something in the Houston area with no luck. It seems like there ought to be something, with all the universities in Houston and the proximity to Mexico, Latin America and S.A.
