Im honestly scared as hell about the CFA... I went on the West Point WEbsite, and I'm not up to par on any of th events, i cant even do 1 pull up and thers no way i can rubn the mile in 5:20. Im gonna look like a fool there. What should i do? im goin on the 2nd week, june 10-16.

Also, im not christian, so what do i do during chapel on sunday?

don't worry about the CFA, just try your best. no one will look down on you. im pretty sure there are others with the same situation as you. if you don't pass, you can always try again.

and during chapel on sunday, you'd just stay in the barracks and chill.

@uofmhopeful, I ran my first mile ever just last week!!! and trust me my time is worse than yours (10 minutes or so) and my legs ached liked something else.
i practiced one more time after that though and it got better.
I just used google image search to find out what pull up is (there's no way i'll pass that).
hopefully i'll learn from my experience.
I already paid for SLS and i know they don't refund people's money.

Hey guys, don't worry about maxing it there...do the best you can, and if you need to improve, you'll be able to take it again later on...so use it as a ruler. Back in '97, when I went (hahahaha, makes me feel old) I did the events (slightly different now, but still) and did it with a torn ACL. So, my run wasn't great, but I could do well on the bball and the pull ups, and some of the others...so I had an okay, but still passing score, and had enough other good pluses in my packet that I got my letter of assurance (pending medical waiver for my knee surgery). The fact that you are going to SLS is a good thing because you already demonstrate many of the qualities USMA is looking for, and it is a good "plus" in your packet. Don't stress it, do the best you can, and take it again later if you need to do so.

Don't stress it. Last summer I did no pullups whatsoever, and my mile was around 10 minutes. Just start training now so you can take it again next spring and ace it.

I was wondering if anyone could provide advice as to what things might be good to bring supplementary to what is listed on the packing list already...

I dropped my daughter off yesterday for the first session. Like Beast Barracks, I don't think you really need much. Khaki pants, running shoes, bathing suit, and toiletries.

KateLewis: Not sure about the next one in the chute. She decided she wanted to do the SLS but insists that she's not interested in actually going to WP. Keeps talking about going to a "liberal arts" school. I'm hoping the week at WP will open her eyes to the disciplined and focused kids around her and to the academic opportunity (and small classes). So, we'll see - as we know, you can't push a kid to attend an academy, it's a recipe for disaster. Good luck to your daughter at Session 2.

P.S. It's funny having my son home lollygagging around, while his sister is getting up at 5 a.m. :) And having to actually make her bed at WP - it puts a smile on my face just to think about it.

If you are really insecure, bring a bathing suit. A lot of people that come into SLS are used to taking showers in the locker room (like me). For them it shouldn't be a problem.

Does anyone know if all the items on the packing list are required? Do we really need shower shoes and a bath robe? Just wondering, I'm leaving on Friday I can't wait. Thanks for the help.
