Is it possible to receive loans for 09-10 summer (6cr)? I'm independent 19 year old and already receiving 10k in Stafford loans for 10-11.

You need to call your financial aid office. Colleges and unis can have different systems. For instance, my S1’s school has a separate single page form for kids that are taking summer classes and they award summer aid separately from the normal Fall-Spring terms. Last summer they ran work/study, this summer they are not. Again, call the financial aid office for YOUR college/uni and ask what the process it for your situation.

Yes you need to talk to them. The maximum Stafford loans are for the year. If your school includes the summer as part of the preceding year then your loan eligibility will depend on whether you already received the maximum for the 2009-2010 school year. If your school includes the summer as part of the following year then your loan eligibility will be part of the 2010-2011 school year. Getting part of the loans in the summer may reduce the amount you will get in the rest of the year.

You maybe eligible for other summer aid such as the Pell grant. you need to ask your school.

The students at the college I work for get summer loans through a state program (in NJ.) It doesn’t seems to affect their Stafford loans.
