Looking into NYU (Tisch and Steinhardt), Northwestern, UMich, Carnegie Mellon...

Any recommendations of solid MT summer programs for high school seniors? Do colleges look at students who do their summer programs? Do colleges, in general, look seriously at any of these programs during the admissions process?

My daughter did the NYU Steinhardt program in music theatre and loved the program in all respects. You work with the faculty from the school and it is a real opportunity for them get to know you. My daughter felt that she left the program with a real idea of what it would be like to attend NYU. From her experience she decided to apply to Steinhardt and it remains her #1 choice.

As a parent I felt that the program was well run and there was a good balance between supervised time and some independence. I liked that it was a 3 week program. It made it a little less costly and allowed my daughter to do an internship for the rest of the summer.

Anne Reinking runs a well-respected summer program in Florida: The Broadway Theater Project. Broadway Theatre Project - Home Master classes by well-known professionals.

I went to Ithaca College's program and I thought it was amazing - for where I was, it was exactly what I needed. This is also the last summer it'll be happening (the prof is retiring this year and he is amaaaaazing). However, it's not as intense as programs at the places you're looking, there is an audition but last summer 15/25 auditionees got in. It's also focused on "acting the song," so if you're looking for a dance-music-theater program this isn't the one. It'd be great help for college auditions though!
I can reccomend checking out the musical theater board on cc, it's quite good!

Thanks for the suggestions! The list grows longer and the summer deadlines are approaching, but it is good to give my son the options of these various programs. I will check out the MT board as well.
