I know that there are a lot of musical theater/acting programs that go on during the summer for high schoolers. However, I wondering if anyone could tell me of any highly reputable programs that occur in the month of August? From my understanding, most of them are in July, and if anyone could tell me of any that occur solely in August, your help would be much appreciated :)

Where do you live?

I live on the east coast, but I’m not really concerned about location, just the quality of the training.

There is a program in Martha’s Vineyard run by the Vineyard Arts Project called “The Musical Theatre Lab.” It’s run by Scott Wise and Elizabeth Parkinson (broadway vets) and there are some reputable people (Kaf Warman from Carnegie Mellon, James Lapine, and Jeffrey Saver to name a few) that are guest teachers. It runs for three weeks from July into August. The auditions for this years program have already happened, but there is always next year! I’d definitely suggest looking into it!

The Arts Edge (google it) is in New York in August. I don’t know if they still have openings but it seems like a great program (At least I hope so, since my D is attending this year!)

Auditions have already passed, but Broadway Arists Alliance in NYC has some August dates.

It does matter if you have to provide your own living arrangements for a program! Anyway, I would try BAA as suggested by mommafrog or even The Arts Edge because they are all businesses and if they have any openings they will take you regardless of auditions. That happened to my daughter on more than one occasion; she didn’t get her act together in time so we would just contact the programs and inevitably someone would have dropped out before beginning and if they hadn’t gotten anyone off their wait list they would just get some references from my daughter and take her. It’s worth a phone call.

“Making it on Broadway” is in August in NYC. DD attended last year and learned a lot.

I know all the people involved in theartsedge. It is a great program to help prepare you for future college auditions.

You will be exposed to faculty at Boston Conservatory, Carnegie Mellon University, NYU Tisch New Studio on Broadway and Pace University, University of Michigan, Cincinnati Conservatory and Syracuse University.
