summer online programs?

I have a question about summer online programs for undergrads.
I am a senior in high school and in summer I assume I will be considered a freshman in college (correct me if I’m wrong),
so I wanted to see if I could enroll into summer online programs to get some classes out of my way.
it says they give credit for classes I take.
does it sound like a good idea? how harder is it to learn on your own?
Any information about summer online programs will be helpful!
Thanks!

Good idea! Taking an online class or two over the summer is a great way to get your feet wet. You have to be self-motivated and well organized to do well in an online class. There won’t be a professor or classmates around to remind you of deadlines or tell you exactly what’s most important to remember from the reading. Not that you don’t get ANY prompts or notes like that in an online class, but it’s not as common… So you’ll learn to be a more independent student, and to be responsible for your own learning, both of which are important in college.

I think it’s harder to learn on my own, but I learn well by listening. It depends on your learning style, the subject, how motivated you are, etc. I’ve taken online courses through [Columbia</a> College](<a href=“http://www.ccis.edu%5DColumbia”>www.ccis.edu) during the summer, and I like the program. The classes are 8 weeks long, and they’re pretty structured. The online classes I’ve taken have all had mandatory class discussions, weekly quizzes, longer writing assignments and proctored exams. I think that’s a better approach than just getting a list of materials and assignments with no real deadlines and no interactions with the instructor or other students. Columbia College is not for profit, and it’s been around since the 1850s. If you decide to go with another school, watch out for for profit schools. Low standards + strip mall headquarters = total waste of time and money. Good luck!
