So I’m currently a junior in high school. I’m super interested in law and plan to study political science and international relations in college. Does anyone know of any good summer programs or internships relating to law? BTW, I have a pretty solid resume with pretty strong extracurriculars…
I’m in the same boat, just a year older! One thing to note is that 99.9% of law firms are only going to take college students and above, so my recommendation is to check with the local political offices/special interest groups to see if you can volunteer this summer. That’s your best bet regarding politics/law and internships in high school.
In most major cities, bar associations will offer internships to high school students, so I would recommend looking into those opportunities first. If nothing pans out, see if you have any connections at any law firms around you (family friends, etc.) and talk to them personally (it makes a good impression and shows that you are committed and interested) to see if there is anything you can do. If there aren’t intern opportunities, ask to shadow a lawyer at a firm for a day/week to see what they do during the regular workweek. That’s obviously not as impressive as an internship, but it could open doors to future internships.
