Summer opportunities for students at Rice?

I live in Houston and right here there's Rice. But what I don't know is if there is any summer opportunities for research or for anything that befits our college application. Can you suggest?

couple things… are you interested in research? or is this just for college applications.

if its the former, what field? once you know that, post back for tips or contact the department chair and see what they have.

this could help when you apply. however if this is just for an app and they make effort to find you a place, you have to do a good job, otherwise it could go badly.

in short, is research the way you want to go?

Now, if you were asking if there were “summer opportunities for Rice students at Rice”, I’d say tons of them. ;)

anxiousmom could you elaborate on summer opportunities for Rice students at Rice? Ideally I’d like to do something involving medicine or like a psychology type research and be paid for it. Do those opportunities exist for freshman?

oh yeah. If you mean during the school year, you can get in touch with your prof and they will help you do research with a group. You can get paid (maybe) or get credit

During the summer there are programs for research. where you can pocket a couple grand easy :)

Well a couple of HS students figured it out.

Sorry - somehow I missed this thread again! Cruise around the Rice webpages; look at the WS jobs and also the other Rice Work jobs (I haven’t checked - most probably aren’t up yet…), and Leadership Rice, and Beyond Borders, and the Undergrad Research opportunities, just as a start - there’s a lot of stuff out there, including internships/paid jobs through the med centers. It doesn’t take much to get these opportunities, but you need to be proactive enough to discuss your interests with profs/peer advisors/older students etc, read the postings on the Rice web and notices up on bulletin boards, etc, and look into what profs are working on in your field of interest. There’s money for student-led projects as well as prof-led things. :)
