Summer Ops Bases Out

Bases for the summer are posted for cadets. I am going to:

YOKOTA, JAPAN

I AM PSYCHED! A friend of mine is going too. I get to go visit my old friends in Tokyo from years ago and keep up my language skills! Man, I’m going to be wrecked by jet lag! Three weeks in ISRAEL followed immediately by three weeks in TOKYO! What a rush! I’M on CLOUD TEN!!

congrats! please teach benjo6 some japanese will ya ;)

yup, just talked to him. :) Having lived there for 3 years I told him I would be sure to take us to the fun places in Tokyo and have an awesome time!

Thats pretty cool. What other bases are available? I would really like to go to Germany. I am enrolled in German 1 right now and plan on minoring in it at the academy.

This summer, Petko will be headed to Eglin AFB, FL!!! I'm stoked too, this is going to be the coolest summer ever! :D

Lots of bases: Rammstein, Kadena, Misawa, Osan, Hickam, Charleston, Seymour-Johnson, Davis-Monthan, Maelstrom, Little Rock, Vandenberg, Fairchild, Barksdale, Whiteman, LUKE, MacDill, Lackland, Randolph, Dover, Dyess, Moody, Nellis, Hooloman, Langley, Scott, Travis, McGuire, Grand Forks, Andrews, Columbus, Maxwell, Tyndall, Vance, Cannon, Beale, Mountain Home, Elmendork, Mildenhall, Lakenheath, Incirlik, Spangdahlem.

I'm sure there's a few I missed that cadets can go to.

I've talked to a few people so far and have heard the following, not including Hornet and I:

MacDill AFB, FL (x2)
Grand Forks AFB, ND
Minot AFB, ND
Hickam AFB, HI
RAF Mildenhall, Eng

Kirtland AFB, NM for me. Oh well, I went to Ramstein last year, so I can't really complain.

For those interested, here's a map of all current USAF AFBs. I'd imagine most of those bases host cadets.

Thanks to the cadets that went to Aviano last year, not only can we not return to Aviano, but the alcohol policy was changed for cadets that, no matter where you are or what the laws, you MUST be 21 to drink. I wish the bad apples had been punished rather than everyone else that were good ambassadors.

Hickam AFB, Hawai'i for me. I'm bummed...I was hoping for Minot. sarcasm

CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!! :-D

Hawaii is a beautiful place, you'll like it. I was just down there a few months ago visiting my dad when he was deployed with the 148th FW to fly F-16 alerts while the F-15s were grounded. Good excuse to get out of school and a good change of weather (when my mom and I left for home, Duluth, MN, it was a temp change of over 100 degrees, 70 above to 50 below with windchill)

You got something against the great state of Alaska?

;)

hey hey, we've established my lack of sleep this week. ;) leave me alone. ;)

sucks that yall cant go to aviano, i've heard from some friends that it was pretty awesome. it may've been asked before, but do you have any say in your ops base? or is it all random straw-drawing?

completely random. Each base has to meet a certain MPA average for those that go, so they have to send a variety to each.

Well. CE majors do have a say in where they go the summer between their 3 and 2 degree years. But they're the only people with that luxury.

And they only have 5 choices too I believe (right?)

Speaking of CE, what's the deal with FERL? No one's ever really explained to me what that is...

(FERL, by the way, is the Field Engineering Readiness Laboratory. There are signs for it around base that seem to indicate that it's out by Jack's and the firing range, but I know almost nothing about it.)

FERL is basically where the CE majors learn how to build stuff. They get to pave roads, and things like that.

I think they do only have a limited number of choices, but those choices include Hawaii, Japan, Alaska, and Guam, among some other legit places/bases.
