summer options

like some of you out there i've missed all the deadlines for those $6000 summer programs that everyone in my school seems to be attending.

so...instead of spending all of my parents' money, i'm considering volunteering this summer at a medical center for a good amount of time. it's convenient since it's like a 2 minute drive away.

in the meantime, i can fit in a bunch of college visits (maybe even overnight), work on college applications, and catch up on some things.

i'm just worried about the college app. part that asks what i've done these last two summers...

is this a good summer plan? i intend to chill A LOT because junior year has been so hectic.

thanks and advice is appreciated

OMG

Chilling between Junior and senior year is a BIG MISTAKE!!! You are ruining your chances at college and life.

Socializing and Relaxing should be near non-existent in your pursuit for higher education.

Sounds like a good plan. Obviously the person above me had no idea what the hell they were talking about, or they were being sarcastic.

Knowing giantredlobster i'd say he's being sarcastic.

Wow I wrote that sarcastically and then I meant to do a follow up post dismissing the comment and encouraging you to do what you said.

YES volunteering is a great thing to do, to tell you the truth 15grand spent on Harvard SSP really doesn't help much believe it or not.

At the same time in can be a turn off if you work to hard, just balance work and play well and you should be fine. No need to run yourself into the ground. Like you said Junior year is taxing, and the worst is just a few weeks away.

so good luck with the rest of the year and even better luck with your summer endeavors.

++ I apologize about not writing this earlier, you must have been thinking W TF is this kid talking about.

:)

15g what've u been smoking? Harvard SSP is like 9k and ur personal expenses for the 2 months total 6k? Wow lil rich boy here...

thanks for the advice

volunteer, drugs, college visits, more drugs, volunteer, video games, soccer, drugs.

sounds good.

Tuition, room, and board and Harvard SSP is about $8,500. http://www.ssp.harvard.edu/2007/admission/tuition.jsp;jsessionid=JPIHAKMOCMCD

There's financial aid, too.

Volunteering is a great idea. I'm actually thinking of finding an internship at a local botanic garden, which has a research program about lichen and our local channel island eco system. Sadly, I don't think they are looking for an intern....
