Summer or Fall Term question

Was talking to my friend yesterday who got applied and was admitted to FSU for the Summer session.

He said the Summer session was great, and he didn't even apply for Fall session.

In fact, I'd like to start in Summer 100%. So, on the online application for FSU (its posted already) should I click "Fall 2014" or "Summer 2014?"

(pasbal has already has told most of the people on this forum to always apply for Fall because you are already considered for Summer if you don't get in for fall)

I want THE best possible chance of getting admitted to FSU and for the Summer Session for that matter.

Please respond

If you want to start in the Summer, apply for Summer. Simple as that, really.

You can’t have “THE best possible chance of getting admitted to FSU and for the Summer Session” in theory. If you apply for Summer, it’s only for Summer; you won’t get considered for Fall. If you apply for Fall, you can be accepted for either Fall or Summer, depending on whether your application is “good enough” for Fall.

Personally, I don’t get the appeal of starting in the summer. The only way it really makes sense for me (looking at it from a purely financial perspective) is if you are accepted into CARE, which I believe basically pays your bills for summer.

When I said “THE best possible chance of getting admitted to FSU” I assumed that many people would rather start in the fall and by applying for the Summer Session I would have an easier or more likely chance of getting in

Not necessarily. Requirements for summer are typically slightly lower, since FSU will offer a number of people summer admission instead of fall if they are borderline, but that’s about it.

The fact that you get automatically reconsidered for summer if you aren’t accepted for fall when you apply for fall just seems like something too good to pass up if you think you’re at all borderline for fall admission.

Of course, if you want to be accepted for summer, and summer only, then there’s only one real option.

Can someone clarify. I thought if student was on the borderline of admitting statistics, applying summer made acceptance easier then they’re in for fall as well.

Not really.

There is ultimately no real benefit to applying for Summer instead of Fall (unless you’re just dying to start in the summer). If you apply for Fall and don’t make the cut, you are automatically considered for Summer anyway. The reverse isn’t the case for Summer applicants.

If you are borderline, limiting your chances of acceptance by applying for summer instead of fall is actually a bad idea. There’s still a chance that you get accepted for Fall, and if not, you have summer to fall back on.

Summer typically has lesser requirements than Fall, yes, but the difference isn’t that significant.

I am still confused by the Summer vs Fall selection. I have applied for the Summer Term. If I am accepted for the Summer term, do I have to re-apply for the Fall Term or am I automatically admitted? Should I change my application to Fall?

You’re still good for Fall.

If you start in the summer, you are allowed to continue in the Fall (unless something huge crops up, such as not graduating or something).

Received notification:Deferred. I applied to Summer Term.
GPA: 3.7
SAT:1830
ACT: 28
8 AP

I noticed students with lower scores/GPA were admitted to Fall term. I think I limited my chances by applying to Summer, instead of Fall. What are my chances March 16 decision ???
…feeling frustrated
