I'm coming from California so it would obviously be cheaper if i came alone, but do parents have their own orientation sort of thing, and is it worth it for them to fly out and stay in a hotel to participate in it?

also...i'll still be 17 and not yet a "legal adult" haha so will this cause any problems with signing papers, making payments etc. if i did come alone?

Yes I think theres a parent portion of the orientation if they attend. But here’s an alternative you may want to consider:

I’m from the west coast as well and I requested to be put in latest orientation(September 1-2). Its usually for International kids, but since my parents didn’t want to make two trips out to Boston I’m going to this last orientation day and we get to move in on August 31st. Anyways, It saves alot of money and you’ll have your parents there with you for all the papers and such.

There’s a parent orientation, but it’s optional. Not only do you have to pay for them to fly out, you have to pay for them to actually attend orientation (which includes overnight stay).

I’m from the west too and didn’t bring my parents. It’s not really important for them to come anyway, and you being under 18 shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t think it’s worth it, save the money for them to come out for move-in weekend.

On the other hand my parents went for orientation (from Florida), and it really helped them with the whole “separation” thing. I guess it would depend on whether or not your parents are going to take you leaving hard.

Orientation sucks… You get to stay in hot and stuffy Stetson West… But the ice breaking is somewhat fun. Just try to be active and it’ll make it better. But staying in STW sucks. As for the parent thing, I think its up to how they feel about you leaving. I was my parent’s second to go, so it was easier for them, however my mom still came out. But I really don’t think it makes much of a difference other than they try to sell more attire/merchandise by advertising to the parents (cause they have money) and whatnot.
