I was just admitted to UT 7 hours ago, and I would like to register for a summer orientation session. However, I don't want to except the admission until I hear from my other schools as well, so can I still register even though I'm not enrolled yet? I know how quickly they can fill up so I would like to be at the front of the line.

I am pretty sure you have to pay the enrollment deposit before you are eligible to register for orientation.

So I can’t pay that and just lose it if I decide not to attend?

Not sure if you are talking about the enrollment deposit or orientation fee. Below is info on both:

To accept the university’s admission offer, an admitted student must pay a $200 enrollment deposit or request an exemption by the deposit deadline. (Your deadline appears on your MyStatus page.)

Satisfying your enrollment deposit will make it possible for you to take the next steps toward becoming a Longhorn (completing your on-campus housing process and registering for orientation when registration opens, for example).

Enrollment deposits are applied to an incoming student’s first tuition and fee bill. Students who do not pay their enrollment deposit by the deadline (or request an exemption) have their admission offers withdrawn. The enrollment deposit is not refundable after the deadline.

From the Summer Orientation Registration Page: (cost is $221.)

Can I cancel or change my registration information?

fwiw you can change your orientation date. If you decide on UT, pick the best open date. If it isn’t great, you can keep an eye on the openings on the various dates and switch over to a better date if when opens up. My son started with a less than perfect date, watched on the internet for openings on his first choice date, then pounced on a better date when a spot came open.
