Summer Orientation vs. Fall?

I'm an OOS student, and can't make it to the Summer Orientation because of the financial costs of the trip.
I heard there is a fall orientation for students like me who can't make it during the summer. I'm planning on going to the fall one, but I'm worried that it'll put me at a disadvantage?

Will there be problems getting into classes I need or other problems if I go to the Fall Orientation versus the Summer one?

Thanks!

I visited this pass weekend and the lady who led the info session made a point of the fact that they open up new classes for each orientation and that it should’nt be a problem.

they do open up classes for every orientation so that you don’t have to worry, but if you go to an earlier orientation, you can alter and tweak your schedule every thursday from home along with the rest of the freshman at the current orientation schedule, if you go to a later one, you’ll still have the registration bar and won’t be able to do anything about your schedule until your orientation, so in a way it does limits your chances at getting the best schedule possible.

Agree with mkose1. We’re in Maine, but we’re biting the bullet and flying DS down in June. We decided the cost is worth the chance for him to get a decent schedule. Some of the summer orientations may already be full - I reserved a spot weeks ago, and the woman told me things were filling up quickly, depending on what school you’re in.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it, though. Even if your fall schedule is not too great, you’ll do better next time.

lol I wish I could go to the summer orientation,
but I live in China, so that would totally kill my budget to stay in the states for months til college started.

So really, I should be able to get into all my classes right? I just might have lame class times like 8 am classes and stuff?

You are more likely to have classes meeting at annoying times for your first semester, but it will be all right. (Most international students from overseas don’t fly in for those June or July orientation sessions. Texas kids who can’t get the week off work will be at fall orientation, too.)

Does summer orientation allow you to pick the professors you want better than the fall session?

I’m trying to decide if its worth missing 3 days of my cc summer calculus class, what do yall think?

Does anyone know how it works for transfer students? from what I heard (and could gather from their web page), our orientations are one day and we can sign up for classes starting June 1st no matter when our orientation is. is this right? Because I am working and taking summer school all summer, i really won’t be able to make any orientation and I want a halfway decent schedule.

^ ya i’m wondering the same thing

Transfer students can NOT sign up for classes until you do it at the orientation. After that you can change/edit your schedule the way you want during specific times. But even if you go to a later orientation, you shouldn’t have any problems signing up for classes. During the add/drop period, most people will change some of their classes. The only classes you won’t get in is if a class has a waitlist because even the waitlist will be full by the time you sign up for your classes.

Do yall think going to summer orientation is worth missing 3 days of my cc summer calculus class?

Yeah, that is the same pickle I am in. I am going to be screwed if I have to miss that many days of calculus. Just wondering, how do you know this information?

^ I’m in that situation as well but i think I can manage missing 3 days of calc

Just remember, three days in the summer is like 3 weeks in the year.

I suck at math, I don’t think I could manage.

So I guess its fall orientation for me!

would it be that bad, plus I only have to get a “C” which I feel like wouldn’t be that bad…is fall orientation the way to go?, but at the same time would it effect my chances at good classes
