Summer Orientation - why are we wasting so much gas?

True. But I meant that when we initially register in late June, we won’t have as many options until July.

You will not have a problem filling up your schedule as a freshman… even if you do it during drop/add. That said, make sure you have a loud alarm clock. 8 AM comes faster in college than it did in HS.

I’m not at all worried about filling up my schedule. I just said that we’d be getting the crappier initial selection (as in time and selection-wise).

“8 AM comes faster in college than it did in HS”

I’m not taking any 8AM classes so I won’t be worrying about that.

summer c students get a pretty bad pick for classes too so no complaining!

As a recent graduate, I will assure you Dnerd that you will have some early classes in your time here. I came in with the honors program and thought registering first every term meant I’d have class twice a week and sleep until noon every day. Unfortunately, professors don’t care about what your sleep schedule dreams are, and will offer classes at times that fit with their schedules. At some point, you will have to take a morning class.

As far as classes go during orientation, the registrar DOES release the classes in blocks for each orientation session (including the late orientation and transfer orientations) in order to ensure that every student gets the classes he or she needs. This first registration is honestly the most “fair” its going to get. In the fall when students register for spring, windows open based on how many credits you have. If you came in with AP/IB credit, you may register before someone with zero. If I had not been in the honors program (which allowed me the first window) I would have registered with the students who had 0-5 credit hours my first semester–over a month after the first window opened.

So enjoy the even playing field while you have it, because after this, it gets really fun.
