Summer orientations from the parent perspective

Our kids didn’t go to summer orientations. Our #1 went to admitted students’ day (and an overnight) at the college he attended. We also visited with him then. This was something of a sales pitch session rather than orientation as such. He emerged from the overnight with a conclusive decision: “This will do.” He accepted the next day and turned down the alternatives.

One funny thing that happened in that session is that as we were waiting in line for something, two young women (apparently admitted students) were pretty excited by the occasion. One of them suddenly exclaimed to the other, “Isn’t this wonderful??! Nobody knows us here!!!” They were ready for a fresh start.
