I posted this in summer program. I'd like to see if any of you had kids who did Oxbridge or Georgetown JSA summer program and their experiences. We are looking for a good humanity program for a rising junior. I know it's insanely early, but there are reasons for us to think about it this early. Thanks very much.

D2 did Putney Student Travel sophomore summer before junior year. She really enjoyed the program.

Kids did Oxbridge in Oxford and in Paris. The only stay in dorms program, imo that has adequate supervision and interesting offerings. We did not go the Putney or other travel routes as kids did not have interest in the “stay at home” aspects of those programs. Have heard that the travel tennis program in Barcelona and France was very good as well, but I think its for younger kids. Also look at Brown Summer, all my kids did a program there at one point - it was very good.

My D did Oxbridge, Oxford Tradition. It was an amazing experience. She learned so much in and out of class. She was able to make decisions on what kind of envirnment works for her in class sizes, setting and established what she wants to major in from that program. She has done others, so she can compare.

She is still close with the kids she was in the program with all around the world. Her roomate was an adorable girl from Singapore. In fact, this last summer she went out to Oxford and had coffee with her professor. It has been a year, and she still says that it was by far the best summer activity she has experienced.

There are other programs in Oxford/Cambridge but this has the strongest reputation and the letters of recommendation were very personal. The staff on sight was amazing and the professors first rate.

This is very encouraging. Thanks! If there is any details you can offer, like website, links, etc. it’d be much appreciated.

Can someone give a link to this program? (Oxbridge) would also appreciate stories from the past experiences with it.

I never did the program, but because I was so heavily involved in JSA, I knew plenty of kids that went to Georgetown Summer School. They would frequently have reunions, and if they saw other Georgetown kids at the regional JSA conventions, would freak out and immediately begin reminiscing about summer school. My chapter’s president went to Georgetown and she always raved about how wonderful it was being in an environment surrounded by hyperpolitical peers, challenging academics, DC, and leadership workshops (which, judging by how successful the club was the year after she went, must have been of very high quality).

JSA sounds interesting.
The oxbridge program has this webpage:

I enjoyed my time at JSA (I did the Princeton program)… you should be aware that they use the prestigious campuses to help sell the program though. They aren’t actually associated with those schools in anyway.

I was so happy to follow the link above and see that Oxbridge is still going strong. DD went to the Oxbridge program in Paris between her sophomore and junior years. It was a terrific experience for her both academically and personally. She went over with her dominant arm still in a cast from wrist surgery and they could not have been more helpful. She took a couple of the more academic offerings and thought that they were very well taught. She also enjoyed the evening activities. We went over to meet her at the end of the program and by that point she was quite comfortable finding her way around the city. Ten years later she is still in touch with one or two friends that she made while there.

I’m interested too.

D did Summer@Brown and LOVED it, and would be happy to return, but is also looking for a different experience this summer.

@Elleneast, It’s really nice to hear your DD’s Oxbridge experience!

@OhMom, I’ve heard many good things about Oxbridge, except for the price. But it sounds like it’s worth it. My d. is seriously considering it.
