Last summer I received the Summer Pell grant but don't know if it is going to be deducted from my 09-10 pell grant. How exactly does the Summer Pell work. Is it separate money then the fall/spring pell money?

My tap covers my tuition but i get a check from pell in the middle off the semester. During the Fall semester I received $2,175 and for the Spring i received $500 so far from Pell. My EFC is $0 so I should get a total of $4,350 for both the Fall and Spring does that sound right for a EFC of $0?

You should search this forum for posts by kelsmom related to summer Pell…or maybe she’ll see this and chime in! My understanding is that this is the first year that you can actually receive two Pell grant awards within an academic year. I’m not sure when that starts though as it sounds like the rules/procedures are still being set up. Some schools consider summer to be the beginning of the year (“summer header”), while others consider it to be the last semester of the prior year. Does the total Pell you received for all three semesters equal $4,350?

The best source of information for your situation is going to be your own school’s FA office…let us know what they say!

Only your school can answer this question for you. The rules are very complicated, and because this is the first year … schools will be choosing which set of rules to use when awarding if summer session contains July 1. Don’t ask … too hard to explain! Just contact your school. Don’t be surprised if they can’t tell you exactly for sure right now.
