Ooh I'll add that I'm performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland with my school. We're doing a musical revue, spending two weeks there and a few days in London. I'm very excited!

Ooh! I'm hoping to get a job at the Fringe this summer, certainly I'm definitely going to be at it (I missed it last year and couldn't forgive myself). Let me know when you'll be there and I may be able to catch it.
Is that what is usually referred to as the American High School Theatre Festival? If so, I know the guy who organises the Scottish end of it :D

My d's school is a finalist for next summer. We're keeping our fingers crossed!

This is too cool with Aspiringactress1 and DramaPrincess networking "accross the pond." Love the internet!

not really set plans yet.....but saturday i have two auditions with the opportunity to be cast in 9 different (paid) shows!! 4 of them are musicals, so hopefully i'll get cast in one of them (even though i'd take a straight play too!)

it's interesting how much you can get done when you're home on spring break, eh?

wish me luck!
maggie

The internet is a wonderful thing indeed :D
Fingers crossed for your daughter jersey! I've met loads of American kids who've come over to do that - one of the main reasons I know about the festival/program/thing is that said guy I mentioned was involved with my acting summer school. Usually he'd invite a couple of the American casts to join us for a day - I have many fond memories of completely forgetting the words to You Can't Stop the Beat in our MT class due to my crazy Chicago dance partner :D Anyway, all of the friends I made had the time of their lives at it. It's a really great opportunity and the Fringe really is the most fantastic experience possible for a theatre-lover.

Summer plans for me - hopefully working at the Fringe or as a guide at a tourist attraction where some friends work. Paying the bills is priority this summer unfortch :(

Maggie....I want to wish you luck. I think I know what audition you mean here in our state. My D has never gone to it (and was away every summer anyway), but that is a good chance for you to be seen by the theaters in the state. This is not my d's break and she is in NYC but that is where she will have to audition for summer, not here. There are some potential opportunities for you in the summer here in state and I've seen what some of the shows will be and I'm hoping you'll be in at least one of them! Summers are the one time in the region when there really is some theater to be in, and precisely when my daughter was never home. Let me know how it goes for you on Saturday. Hoping for a positive outcome.

is your daughter staying in NYC for the summer and hoping for some theatre opportunities there? that would be GREAT!!

i'm not sure if you're quite right about what you think the auditions are -- i wasn't back on time for VATTA if that's what you're thinking.

very excited for tomorrow....LOTS of driving, but hopefully it'll be worth it. i'll let you know what happens, maybe you can come see a show!

maggie

Maggie,
Yes, I was thinking you meant VATTA. You can tell me sometime what auditions you meant and do not need to post it of course. I'd love to see you in a show. No, my D is not looking to stay in NYC for the summer. She is auditioning for and hopes to get work in summer stock some place, any place :D. When and if she does, I'll let you know. You can always email me if you wish. I'm rooting for you!

Sorry if my prior post was confusing when I said auditioning in NYC...I did not mean for theaters located in NYC but that is her present location and where she must attend auditions themselves for summer stock work. My D will never be home this entire semester!

Susan,

Will she be doing Strawhats? Or will she be going to the individual company auditions as they occur in NYC? If the latter, would you be willing to share with others how you go about learning of these auditions and how to get into them. I'm sure it would be a great help to many others here whose kids will be in NYC next year.

Theatermom, I don't wish to share just which auditions my D is attending or has attended until her plans are further along though if you wish, you can e mail me.

As far as auditions that are separate theater auditions, as opposed to combined auditions such as StrawHats or NETC, audition notices are available in different sources such as Backstage or other places that list all NYC auditions, if going to open calls. Even some theaters' own sites list their audition notices. I believe Playbill might list some. To the best of my knowledge, there are combined auditions like StrawHats/NETC, etc., open call notices for individual theaters listed on audition listings such as Backstage and other resource lists, agent submitted auditions, Equity calls, and some theaters even come to some college campuses to conduct summer stock auditions. Those are the avenues of which I am aware. Eventually I could post more specfics about which things my D is auditioning for but I think the time will be once she has any plans in place, if she is so lucky. She is having some positive experiences and as you know, these difficult odds and being in a place of wanting to be "admitted" doesn't end with college admissions!
Best,
Susan

Just spoken to a director I've worked with who wants me for a show this summer. Eeek, decisions!
