Summer plans?

My high school chem teacher had a big vat of mercury that they forgot to take away from her when they banned mercury.

My mom is sending a pair of cute tennis shoes with cherries on them, and I will keep them in my locker at the lab and change into them when I get to work every day.

Oh, good call. I'm almost positive the lab I'm working in has the same rule and I was completely at a loss for shoes. Summer and no flip flops? The cute nails weren't going to be so much of a problem as the flip flops were.

Wait, so are you a bio major now, pebbles? Sorry, I'd check old posts, but I just got home from a lacrosse tournament and after 4 games am really out of energy for any extra exertion.

Oh no, I was just saying I quite enjoy my biology class (7.013) right now. I'm a physics major for lifffffffe.

I thought you were aero/astro?

nope. officially physics. Depending on how things work out I might add an Aero/Astro degree- I'll be taking tons of aero/astro classes anyways.

I've had two interviews for an internship at Fermilab. I really, really hope that I get it.

That's nice. Two interviews is always a good sign :)

FermiLab would be a great opportunity. Wishing you well. It's wonderful to hear about all the opportunities that our future scientists and engineers have today.

i know someone who had a good time at fermilab. she's working in california w/ me this summer :P are you a physics major?

Thank you guys for your support! I haven't heard back from them yet; the suspense is killing me! I'm actually a mechanical engineering major, prospective nuclear engineering grad student with a very strong background in low-level software engineering. The project is in the software engineering subject area but the opportunity to work with and meet the scientists and engineers there would be absolutely amazing. Just to the see all the labs makes me really excited!

I would give them a call to ask.

Man, it's a little late to be keeping you waiting like this. But I know the feeling, one of my internships took more than a month to get back to me - by then I'd already committed elsewhere :P

Yeah unfortunately it can vary by the employer. I had an employer respond back the next day, while another took a couple weeks to come back with the offer.

Brendank - Call the lab to follow up. Sometimes emails get lost, paperwork gets mislaid. Don't forget the old adage - "the squeaky wheel gets the oil."

Let them know that you are still interested. A lot of people want that position no doubt but you be the one that calls to follow up.

I had DD follow my advice on this and I think it helped her.

Keep us posted. Good luck but do call or email today about it.

I'm doing some research this summer (also in sunny California) on new methods of SOI (silicon on insulator) cooling. :)

I've been offered the internship at Fermilab and accepted it.

Brendank - Congratulations! Enjoy the internship.

Congrats Brendank :)

yay! :))) What will you be doing?

Taking over the world? Perhaps? :)
