Hey, I'll be at Smith tomorrow for their Summer Preview. It's from 8:30 to about 1:30, but I was wondering if there are any places I should visit before leaving (I plan on roaming the campus a bit). Thanks a lot!

What are your interests?

Umm... I'm into journalism, singing, I really want to see inside the houses (at least one). I know I won't be able to really get a feel for the school since it's summer, I'll be visiting later though. I'm also obsessed with a nice view (especially of water).

The houses with the best pond views are probably Park, Haven/Wesley, and Chapin.

Sage Hall is the music building, and the Sophian offices are in Capen Annex (one of the small, rather run-down buildings that look like single family houses kind of between and behind the old Davis student center and Capen house)

One of my favorite and least-known spots on campus is Capen Gardens...walk down Prospect Street and it's on your left, next to Capen House and across the street from the Campus school. It's so beautiful--have fun!

If you can get into Chapin House, its west side looks out on Paradise Pond. If you're interested in singing, you should check out Sage Hall...the performing arts spaces are great. Of the houses, Haven, Parsons, and Hopkins are all open right now...others may be. If you can't get into Chapin, even walking along the pond is very nice, we did some of the far end.

D says to check out the Campus Center, on Elm Street, a major hangout place. The art museum, a two-minute walk from there, is definitely worth some time. D also says you have to check out the Olin Fitness Center.

D's not wild about the John M. Green auditorium...it's a bit Gothic for her tastes...but I think it's a nice concert venue.

A two-minute walk into town to Herrell's for ice cream is absolutely necessary.

D echoes Stacy about the Capen Gardens.

Oh, I didn't realize they're doing an event tomorrow! I might drag myself up there. I went for Simply Smith, but it was pouring that day and I didn't get to fully tour the place. Maybe I'll con my mother into taking me up.

Beginning, I was at simply smith. The day was kind of, well- yuck. Thanks Stacy and TheDad (and D). I'll definitely check out those places after the general tour (I really hope it's not thunderstorming). Thanks again! :)

We made it through the initial info session, lunch right after that, and the admissions session with Deb Shaver. After that, the downpour was simply too much, so we took off. I feel bad for people who drove long distances or flew in and literally had a complete "wash-out."

I got back from Noho about an hour ago, and I definately had fun. We beat the thunderstorm!!!:) I felt bad for those people too Beginning. I saw most of the houses (either on my own promenade or during the tour) but we only got to see inside Hubbard House. The campus is beautiful (last time I went it was grey and WET).We had lunch at Fitzwilly's, and my sister had some of Herrell's famous ice cream. Guys thanks again for your help!
