Hi. Was just wondering if anyone else out there is going to be doing the three week mt program at Steinhardt. At this point, three of us have connected and was hoping that more of the students might have the opportunity to become quasi-acquainted. Nanci

Hi,
Yes, my son is going to NYU for MT this summer also. I would like to connect with others who have kids attending. I still have some questions about the program even though he is all signed up and paid for! How many kids are in the program? Boys vs Girls? Is there any one besides Prof Wesbrooks to contact with questions? I would like to know more about how their weekends and evenings are going to be occupied. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Candylady. I did find out that there will be 36 students enrolled in this program ranging in age from incoming hs seniors to grad students. How old is your son? I am sure that there are others you can contact with questions but I find that e-mailing Prof. Wesbrooks provides the quickest and most accurate replies. I do not know the male/female ratio but I do know that generally the girls outnumber the boys dramatically. (no pun intended). Where are you from? We live in CT. I know of another young lady from CT and a young man from MI. Please post if you find out anything interesting. Good luck! Nanci

Hi,
Thanks for the info. My son is going to be a hs senior and we live in Minnesota. We plan to come out to NYU for the showcase at the end of the 3 weeks. My family loves New York City...... going to theatres, restaurants, shopping, etc. S visited NYU last Feb and it is on his potential college list. He has spent a lot of time acting, performing and singing all through the years at school and throughout our community. He's just not completely sure if he wants to go the MT route for college or not. We are hoping that this summer program will help him figure out what he wants.

I am the father of the young man from Michigan. candylady (and anyone else), please feel free to send me a private message if you want my S to contact your S (or D). Also, the information on 36 students was very helpful. If any of you find out more information (e.g., evening and weekend information, etc.), please post or send me a private message. Thanks again to all.

My daughter is also interested in this program for next summer (she is only a sophomore this year and Mr. Wesbrooks told me she needs to be a junior to go this summer). For those whose kids go this summer, please let us know how it went, what the program was like, etc. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd love to hear what you have to say as this program really hasn't had much "press" here on CC to date. It sure sounds like a great program though! Good luck to all those CC kids who are going!

For those whose kids went to this program, I was wondering what they thought of it. Did they enjoy it? Would they recommend it? Did they feel they learned anything? What was it like? What did they do while there? Etc. We haven't heard much about this program on CC, so thought you might fill us in.
Thanks.

My S went to the program at NYU called Cap 21. It was an MT program with singing, dancng and acting. If anyone wants info on that, send me a line.

My son returned from the program last weekend and in his case it was heaven on earth! It is not a camp at all--it is a college course for college kids and high school seniors [with a few exceptions]. The main emphasis is absolutely voice--song analysis is primary. The students are asked to arrive at NYU prepared to sing 3 songs of their choosing. They work on these songs in group and private sessions with voice coaches/teachers learning the process of how to present a song for theatre.
There is dance class, creative movement [mime], and tap lessons, also. Each taught by a different NYU faculty member. There are no straight "acting classes" only the processes within the song analysis.
There are master classes taught by people in the industry/other faculty so the kids get to hear about how all of this applies outside the classroom. There is a lot of info on auditioning and building a repetoire. A casting agent came one evening to explain how she and others cast many of the top Broadway shows and what they look for. The students were all invited to sing solos for her and she offered comments.
The 36 students were split basically into 2 groups: college/older and high school/younger for the most part. The high school group lived in the dorm just a few doors from their classes. The dorm was directly across from Washinton Square. The kids saw a LOT of New York City. The program included a Mets game, river cruise, several Broadway plays, museums, and other chaperoned activities.
There was a showcase the last night which featured each student in a solo performance and several group numbers. It was great and all the kids are very talented and come from all over the country--he made some incredible friends.
Hope this helps a bit.

I'm a 16 year old sophomore (going into Junior year) and I act with a regional theatre about 50 miles from my home. I know many people that would be interested in going to a summer program. Can anyone give me a website for this program? I won't go this year but maybe another time...I would just like some info: How much does it cost? How long are you there? etc. You can PM me (btw I just joined this site hoping to find some info like this as well as colleges for MT) Thanks!

i'm brand new to this site - 1st posting. hopefully i'm posting my response to the correct place. ising2myowntune asked if anyone else was accepted to the steinhardt 3 week summer program. my d was. She also was accepted to the uarts mt summer program. She is having a hard time deciding which to pick.
anyone out there know more about either program? i've read all the posts to this thread. I've heard that uarts is acting/dance and voice whereas steinhardt is more voice, some dance and little acting. Can anyone clarify any of that? Can anyone direct me to any other threads to read? Thanks!

How about some feedback on how your summer experience was? Also, I read the website twice and also the application and I don't see costs except an estimate for the dorm/meals. What was the overall fee? Thanks in advance.
