Summer Program at Wash U

Does anyone have any first hand info about the high school summer program at Wash U? As you all know DD is looking for a summer program of some kind. This one looks really good...any info would be helpful.

Is it simply a summer of taking classes there? They have these at many schools and I think that kids usually love them. I know someone who did it at BC, and the mix of independence, college level courses, and a great residential social life do wonders for kids on their way to higher education. Wash U would certainly be an excellent choice.

a friend's daughter did a summer program at Wash U....it was academically challenging and she enjoyed it....not cheap....did not help her get in...she is in the Georgia Honor program.

Oldman, thanks for the info. DD is looking for a summer program. She really isn't interested in Wash U for college anyway so the notion it could be a hook for admittance is not relevant. The summer program, however, looks really good. Thanks.

I'm actually surprised it didn't help with admissions at Wash U, because they seem to be genuinely interested in accepting students that are applying to Wash U with knowledge of exactly the type of school it is - similar to Emory and other schools where people tend to apply before visiting.

D received two separate invites to Wash U's summer program. Too long. D wants one week maybe two at two places. What is your D looking for, and what budget ? Maybe we can compare notes. D's favorites right now are Barnard Leadership and one of the writing courses ,like at BMC or Dickinson.

DD is looking for a 3-5 week program. She has gone to 4 week music programs for the last three years. She would ideally like something where she can take classes and also play her oboe. At Wash U that is a possibility. The Philips Exeter Summer program also looks like it has that potential. She might also be interested in something related to mock trial/law (and would forego the music). We figure this will cost at least $4000.

Curmudgeon - Earlham in Indiana has a relatively short summer program. It's a two week program - my daughter is looking at it closely and will probably attend. Here's the link: http://www.earlham.edu/~eac/

My daughter considered Earlham's summer program and I hadn't even heard of it. She went to a program at Georgetown instead which proved to be a great experience, and only a week long. Also consider some of the generic college summer options that might offer a music course.

My daughters went to Earlham's summer program last year. They both loved it. It was a great way for them to visit and spend some time at Earlham (we live far from Indiana) and Earlham rose to the top spot on their college lists after the two weeks spent on campus.

Futureadcom, did your D go to the International relations program at Georgetown?

Curmudgeon,
My son went to the IR program at G-town last year. Questions?

I did the Summer@Brown program a couple of summers ago. I enjoyed it. Wouldnt say it helped in admissions, but it was definitely a good experience.

Robrym, I pm'ed you. Ducks ,did you do "Leadership" or a course? (I am really trying not to hijack this thread but I can't seem to help myself. Sorry.)
