Summer Program -- Better Chances?

Will attending a summer program at a specific university raise my chances of getting in to that university?
I mean, how much does it really matter? I heard that it can even decrease the chances, because they will think I'm trying to prove that I really want to get in to this university or something.
I don't know what to think...

From the responses I’ve gotten to a similar question, I would say that it definitely won’t decrease your chance. It will help with the “Why Harvard?” essay–or whatever school this summer program would take place at. It also shows interest in the school, and a summer program allows you to live on campus for a while and see what the school is really like.

I’m guessing that the program isn’t something like TASP, but it won’t hurt, and in my experience, summer programs are fun, and a great experience!!!

For colleges that take into account interest, it helps. I also think that Carnegie Mellon’s summer program even lets you apply there Early Action for the next year.
