Summer Program for High School Students - How Good?

My son’s summer plans for the first part of the summer fell through. One of his options is to attend the AU summer program for high school students. It is called the Washington Community of Scholars.

This program might work for my son because he will probably be a political science major in college and he can stay with a family relative who lives on Wisconsin Avenue a short distance away from AU.

Can somebody comment on how good this AU summer program is? I see that it uses some current AU students as mentors. How good are the courses and the teachers? Here is the web link for the program. Thank you.

Middleoftheroad’s son did an AU high school summer program. Perhaps you could send a private message?

Hello, just saw this thread. We don’t have any experience with the Washington Community of Scholars program but my son did a summer filmmaking program at AU that he enjoyed a great deal, as he had worked in video before but not 16 mm. The program was well-organized, the teachers were well-versed in the field from what he said and judging from what he did, and he met great kids from around the country and also the DC area. He has remained in touch with some of them. I called up the director of the program and talked to her before we signed him up and she was very available and open to questions. It is pricey, though less so if your son can stay with friends nearby as you mention. They organized lots of after-class field trips around town for the kids who weren’t from DC though the locals were welcome to come if they wanted.

When they announce the faculty on the website, you can check out their ratings at ratemyprofessors.com.

(Take everything you read there with a grain of salt).

bump – any info on this program, am planning to attend

no new info?>???
