Summer Program for High School?

Is anyone familiar with Syracuse's summer program for high school students? My daughter is considering attending one of the 2 week courses this summer. Thank you.

Do you have any specific questions?
I worked as a Resident Advisor for high school summer students for its entirety. Some students stayed for 2 weeks while others stayed for more than a month.
The director of Summer College is very nice and if you had any specific questions, I’m sure he’d be happy to answer you via a phone call. Otherwise, I’m more than happy to answer any questions as well. Please feel free ask.

Thanks for responding Cuse44. I have spoken with someone from the program and she was very helpful. I was hoping for any insight from people that attended the program.

My D is looking at a 2 week non-credit program. The purpose is to try to get her some exposure to college life, having to be independent, making new friends, etc. How is the Syracuse program set up as far as activities? How much time is spent in class versus free time? Any feedback you can share would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry about that BobbyCT, I wasn’t a student myself who participated but I will do my best to help.

The students living on my floor were in class about 4-5 hours/day Mon-Fri. We as RA’s were responsible for planning social activities with our residents multiple times a week and there were building wide events at least once a week (where ALL summer students gathered to hang out, meet, etc). Also, on the weekends, there were bigger events like field trips that took place outside the campus.

Given that the students were mostly (if not all) minors, the students had a curfew. With that said, I think it was a good way to help manage their free time and to perhaps keep our students away from making poor decisions at night.

Personally, I felt that the students who stayed for more than 2 weeks enjoyed the program significantly more but I understand that financially, these programs are not cheap.

Please feel free to let me know if I can help in any other way.

PS. Is your daughter considering Syracuse for college? I’m a recent alum, now living in CT (and attending UConn Health Center).
