the only one in cali apart from stanford that i know of is ucla. stanford looks like a bit of a bummer cos its 8 weeks, and classes are with college undergrads :/

EPGY & Summer @ Stanford are great programs (if you can afford it, that is). Stanford is an amazing school and your son or daughter will get a lot out of the experience.

I attended the stanford high summer college this past summer and I have to say it was the best summer of my life. The campus is stunning, the classes are great and the social aspect is amazing. It is very expensive (as almost every summer school of this kind) but I think it’s worth it. I particularly noticed the diversity and the quality of the excursions (google headquarters, baseball game, wicked at san francisco, etc.).

Thank you all posters for your reply.
Are there a lot of international students at Stanford? I intend to send my daughter there only once. I was thinking after grade 10 or after 11. But I don’t know which is better? She will do her IGCSE (British exam) in grade 9 and 10 and IB in grade 11 and 12.

there’s a summer program at caltech i believe called YESS and its for 3 weeks…

To applefan
I just read Stanford summer program website. What course do most high school students take? Is it Success Series-Working Smarter and Writing well at College Level?

No there aren’t a lot of international students at the program probably about 70 out of 500 but these people are from all over the world. Personally, I did it after grade 10 and it went find.
For sure, the psychology courses were popular but it was pretty well balanced for the rest of the courses. From what I’ve heard the college courses weren’t as interesting as they look. But anyway I really advice you to take advantage of the add/drop period. As an international student, I found this amazing because I had the chance to test all the courses I wanted and it was more than useful.

There’s the Summer College that applefan123 is talking about, or the other one that I went to (EPGY Summer Institutes). I know we were definitely jealous of the Summer College people because they had freedom to do whatever, but the EPGY program was extremely beneficial to me. They have a bunch of different courses in 2, 3, or 4 week sessions and it’s a dorm residential program. Not only did I receive education from an amazing professor on the topic of Bioinformatics and Biotechnology, the social aspect of the EPGY program is beyond amazing. I’m sure results may vary, but for me, staying in a house with 44 other juniors and seniors who are just as passionate about science as I am was pretty amazing. The residential staff were pretty fun too, I still keep in touch with a lot of them and they’ve given me insightful advice on their college admissions process. I would definitely say EPGY was the best summer I’ve had. It’s pretty costly, but I know they offer financial aid if you can get it.

Oh and also, since you’re from overseas, there were quite a few international students in my house, I think like 15 or 20. They came from the UK, Canada, China, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and a couple of other countries.
