I'm looking for a summer program for a rising junior girl who is interested in science, particularly biology, but has not taken biology yet, though she will have completed AP Physics B and Honors Chemistry. It would be best if she could get something she couldn't get in school like unique lab experiences, or more in depth into research areas. She will be taking AP Bio next year.

She does not care about how it looks for college and prefers that it be high quality, low stress, non-competitive and leave time for other fun activities and sports.

She was initially drawn to Explo at Yale because she could study multiple subjects, but after reading some reviews on CC, it doesn't sound like the academic portion is of very high quality and it seems like they hire people and then tell them what to teach whether or not they know anything about the subject. SIG seems like the same thing, though it's cheaper. Still, for that kind of money, I'm looking for something more worthwhile.

The program we are looking for would be

3-5 weeks

Not graded (the low stress part)

Not just a for-credit college course at a university

A program where she can study multiple subjects over that period

Residential

So far we know about programs at Smith and University of Michigan that meet these goals, I was just looking to see if there are any more that we missed. Also if anyone has any more reviews of

Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program for High School Girls
Michigan Math and Science Scholars

Thanks in advance
