Hi all; looking for some opinions:
DD is a junior this year, heavily involved in drama/theatre at school and in the community. She is thinking of pursing acting after high school, but has said if she doesn't have the talent to be onstage, she would love to stay in the realm of theatre. She would like to attend a more intensive summer acting camp (she went to a one week camp at Hampshire College and loved it), and I am willing to help her finance the adventure with the idea that it will help bring into focus her goals post high school. Either she can continue to deveop as an actor or she may switch over to another theatre major. Either the NY Film Academy 4 week program at Harvard or the BU 4 week program are possibilities for our area. There is also the Walnut Hill summer program, but I think that may be audition based. Any imput would be greatly appreciated, as I know these programs fill fast and she'll have to be ready to apply in the weeks ahead.
Thanks!

I know someone who loved the Emerson acting program last summer-- very intense and rigorous. Not really a camp though! Have you thought of a place like Stagedoor Manor? That you would want to apply for today-- but it’s not audition based.

My son is a freshman at BU, and while he did not attend their summer program, one (and probably more) of his classmates did. The girl he talked to about it said it was fabulous…positively life-changing.

One thing about the Boston University School of Theatre, both with regard to the summer program and the regular school of theatre, is that it is known for its very warm, supportive atmosphere, combined of course with top-notch training. Last but certainly not least, my son’s classmate said her summer experience was so much fun…she had a ball.

The NY Film Academy is not very well respected.

Thanks for all the imput. I will do more research and then give it over to my daughter to put in her opinion. Thanks too for the tip on the NY Film Academy. For all of us newbies to theatre, it’s great to have people “in the know” to help guide us along.
