Summer program . or community college.

should i:

I got accepted to SCA, student conservation assocation. It’s environment stuff, and I’m going to connecticutt and clean up places/build bridges/work on forests and stuff for one month. I’m guessing it will be fun. But expensive(plane).

Community college. summer courses, take classes.

I know i should do what I like to do (i like 1, and probably will do it). But i want to know which is more helpful (if any) towards college.

1 will be better...it also sounds like a great opportunity. classes you always take. summer programs only come along every summer. if you can, you can just self study with a course book which will make that class easier when you take it in the fall, while your participating in the SCA program.

SCA is regarded well on campus (well, at UCSC). It is a selective program that has a positive impact on the environment and environmental education. It's open to more than just high school students, also.

You can take community college during the school year if you really want to.

SCA is regarded well? oh
i dont think it's selective tho, is it?

the plane ticket costs sooo much! eeee. lol I'm paying a couple hundred to go volunteer!

It is selective. It's employment.

Now that I think of it, though, you're talking about the high school specific program, aren't you? I don't think it matters (still somewhat selective), but selectivity doesn't have a whole lot to do with whether it's valuable anyway. After all, CC isn't really selective.

Find a way to get the money for the plane ticket. Petition for sponsorship!

I don't think SCA is that selective. Besides, you are going to be out in the wilderness for weeks sleeping in tents. Does that really sound like something that you'd like to do?

I would go with the college classes. SLCC classes are cheap and easy for the most part. You can really beef up your resume with them. Not to mention that you can also get some college credit.

chanman,

You can also look into internships. Something similiar to NASA SHARP because those are educational and they pay.

but most of the deadlines are over for those

Not all of them.. I sure that if you googled it, then you would actually find something that hasn't passed. Here's a few.

University of Wisconsin Madison's SSI--mid april deadline

Pre-college enrichment program @ Mississippi--june deadline
