Summer Program or Olympiad?

If you had to choose one or the other (when both are an option), which would you choose and why?

Prestigious/highly selective summer program/internship

or

Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, or Computer Science international olympiad competition

?

Are you conducting some sort of poll? Because what I would choose is irrelevant to what you would choose.

I would go for the former, because I dislike olympiads/competitions.

But if you’re trying to decide, you’ll want to pick the one that is most beneficial to you. Not the one that glows brighter on your transcript, mind you. The one that you will most enjoy and learn from.

If you make USAXO camp, you obviously go there. The only exception would be if RSI accepts you.

Well, if I were brilliant at math, I’d go to IMO regardless. That would the the top six math-y teenagers in the U.S. and probably be a cooler experience than RSI.

Half the U.S.’ IMO team is Asian (those three are all Chinese, I think). So if you were given that opportunity and you’re Asian, too, you need to REPRESENT. Haha.

No, not a poll so much… just looking for thoughts. And of course the decision is up to the individual. I wouldn’t let CCers make a decision for me :-).

Of course right now I don’t think anyone has qualified yet for an Olympiad this summer and most of the summer program decisions are not out yet either.
