Is the area where the dorms located safe, accessible to public transit?
did you use the meal plan (how often)
Did AU plan recreational activities for evenings or weekens?</p>

<p>I don’t know the answer to most of your questions, but I’ll take a stab at what I do know.</p>
<p>First of all, American has two campuses located about 10 minutes’ walk from each other: the main campus, and the Tenley campus. Most summer interns live on the Tenley campus. This location is actually closer to Metro (about a block from the Tenleytown/AU stop on the Red Line) than the main campus is. Some interns do live in Nebraska Hall, at the edge of the main campus closest to the Metro–so, about a 10 minute walk to the Red Line. </p>
<p>Both of AU’s campuses are located in Northwest DC, in a neighborhood that has, depending on your personal likes, pros and cons. Pro: the area is quite safe as urban areas go. It is near Embassy Row, where the rents are high and the security is tight (and where the trick-or-treating is apparently great, but not in summer). The Red Line provides pretty good access to downtown (though less so on weekends, when trains are less frequent, and it seems they’re always doing track work). Cons: the area is mostly residential. The interesting places in Washington to eat, to shop, to visit and to hang out aren’t here. As noted above, you can get to them from AU, but you will have to commute to them.</p>
