Summer Program Reject

For this summer, I had originally planned on doing one of three summer programs I had found: RSI, Drexel Summer Mentorship Program, and Fox Chase Cancer Center Student Scientist. After doing more research, I realized I had no chance at RSI, so I didn't even apply. I made it through the first rounds of screening at the other two, and even got interviews. I was outright rejected from Drexel, and was given partial admission to Fox Chase. I am very interested in my preferred field of study (bioengineering), and would love to do nothing more than spend my summer in a lab. In addition, I want to attend top-tier schools (i.e. MIT, Hopkins, Cornell, etc), so I feel a little obligated to attend a summer program. After essentially being rejected from all three, I have no backup plan, and would still like to somehow work in a lab of some sort. Does anyone have any recommendations of what to do that is located in the Philadelphia area? My only alternate plan is to kindly email professors from Drexel and U Penn asking for an opportunity to volunteer with or shadow them for the summer.

Thank you in advance!!!

That was what I was going to suggest. I don’t think it’s early enough for anything else. You can TRY and see any of the Penn programs have any spots left.

Connections are reeallyyy important. Just ask anyone if they know any professors or internship openings at their university. Friend’s friend’s friend… Neighbor’s friend… etc lol… good luck!

Have you been able to find something since your first post?

It turns out that I was accepted into the limited version of the Fox Chase Program!!! Thank you to everyone that offered advice!

Congrats! I was going to offer you advice but you were accepted! to you.

Thank you so much! :D
Could you offer the advice anyway just in case someone happens to stumble upon this thread??? lol
Thanks again!
