Summer Program vs Independent Research?

<p>I'm currently doing an independent research internship with a bioinformatics professor at a local university. There's also a VERY prestigious summer program (in which you do research) which may or may not be RSI, at the university where I'm doing research.</p>

<p>Is such a prestigious program worth more to college admissions officers than doing an independent internship at the same university?</p>

<p>I'm already a rising senior so I guess it's too late to do anything now, but I was wondering.</p>

<p>It’s never about the program but about what you do. If you feel like you’ll accomplish something more meaningful outside the structured program, then do independent research. At the end, it depends on what you have to show for it.</p>
