Class of 2015, how many of you are planning to do the summer program? I can't make my mind up whether or not I should take classes or just relax for the summer!

And does anyone know how much financial aid they offer for summer programs?
Is it better to take summer classes at a local CC?

I am trying to make the same decision, also I read that if you want to apply for financial aid for the summer program that you have to fill out the 2010-2011 FAFSA. That is what they will base your financial aid on not 2011-2012 that we just filled out.

I’m probably going to go to the summer program. The way I see it, getting some of the introductory classes out of the way before the school year begins and you have to scratch and claw for them is almost worth it all by itself. And, thinking about it, unless you live someplace completely gorgeous around a both of other college-age kids, spending half the summer out on the beach getting to know folks and possibly engaging in debauchery doesn’t sound half bad at all.

Do it.

Class sizes are smaller by more than half, possibly even by more than two-thirds its normal-school year counterparts.

**(examples: Psych 1 has 550 people or something enrolled during the regular school year. It has ~100 people in the summer. EEMB 22 has 120 kids in lecture during spring; it goes down to 40 during the summer.)

UCSB is wayyy less crowded.

WAY less people at UCSB & IV in summer = more quality nocturnal debauchery.

Weather is NICE.

Get started on your units! Especially if you transfer in with more than 40 units or so. . .

I’m doing FSSP as well. I’m doing summer courses at two local community colleges and going into FSSP four days after CC summer session ends.

My reasoning is that I can relax during the school year and focus on three sequences/courses only instead of 4 or more. I’ll be doing less work than the average SB-er and still be caught up in units.

Besides, not like we have anything better to do over summer :P.
