Summer Program

Would the summer challenge program at BU give me a better chance at admissions? And has anyone done it? If you have, did you like it?

it was the best summer of my life! the people and friends are amazing! It helped me and another girl I know get into BU but another friend of mine was deferred. Basically class is for 4 hours 2 morning and 2 in the afternoon and the rest is time to explore Boston. I highly recommend going. I am even in the brochurre with the rest of my friends. Feel free to message me with any questions you have

hey, i went to the BU program too last summer. were you in challenge or honors? i was in challenge. anyway, i know quite a few of the people from the program got in! it was seriously so much fun & a great experience. i wish i could go again but seniors entering college aren't allowed =/

I was in Summer Challlenge 1 though in the brochure they used my pic for honors, but it was still cool to be in the brochure

whats your name? they didn't use my pic at all and i did that stupid fake photo shoot too haha

I'm Melissa, but i have no rememberance of them taking my pic or else I would have fixed my hair because it looks really bad in the pic. Which session did you go to?

i went to session 2 july 10-22nd- and they gathered us up for brochure photos haha.

I'm currently on a road on doing the Summer challenge for BU this summer. Just a question, how much did you spend on leisure things, such as shopping or eating outside, or go to places (exclude the cost of tuition, and the plane ticket). Just curious because Boston is like a big city and I want to explore it without spending a lot of money. What would you guys recommend should I bring for personal expenses? Minimum?

Just for info, I'm leaning on doing the challenge program during the last seassons in august.

Well, you shouldn't go by me b/c i'm a shopping obsessed girl but i brought & spend $800 which is actually pretty sad now that i have to admit it to someone else haha. I can't tell from your username if you're female or male but if you're female & like to shop bring a lot of $ or don't go out. . ever haha. the meals are covered in the dining hall & the food is pretty decent- buffet style w/ salad bar, a few hot entrees, ice cream bar & dessert. You won't go hungry & you really don't have to go out to eat. I ate out a few times at a bagel place, mcdonalds, the food court at the mall and the cheesecake factory. Towards the end no one really wants to eat out bc they're conserving their last few dollars. You really won't NEED to buy much. there are no true necessities except buying things you forgot @ the convienience store (ridic. overpriced- my friend said its convienient for donald trump haha) and drinks if you get thirsty once in your room for the night (curfew, ah!). You'll probably also want a BU tshirt or sweatshirt so thats about $20-$40. My friends & I also spent about $40 each in Coldstone over the course of the trip haha. Shopping is amazing in Boston- Faniuel Hall, Newbury St., Harvard Square. We also went to a RedSox game & the beach. When they take you out you're guaranteed going to want to buy at least a little souveneir and probably something to eat at that place. You don't have to go overboard like me and spent $800 but I'd bring probably at least $300 to be safe depending on your personal spending habits/preferences. I apparently have no control haha.

i think i had about 200 to 300 dollars in cash plus my credit card...the majority of that going to food of all sorts...basically you put as much or as little in it as you want. I am not that big of a shooper though I did buy a BU sweatshirt b/c it was cold the first few nights plus T tokens can add up. There is so much to do though without spending monrey so you should be fine. THere are alwways banks on campus and arond it

I got into the BU summer program for 2005, (with a very generous $4000 fin aid offer as well) ... but I turned it down (it was hard to do, trust me)... I had been accepted earlier to another pre-college program with a substantial amount of aid as well...

after seeing this thread i was wondering: because i turned down the BU summer program, do you think they will consider that with my application? i mean, will it look like I'm using them as a "back-up" school... possibly giving them reason not to take me seriously??

oh and btw, for those heading to BU this summer - boston is a FANTASTIC city and you will have TONS of fun... i had the opportunity to go to harvard ssp in 2004 and let me tell you, there's always something to do there!! it's just a great place.

Just some questions guys....how can you get to Boston U from far away places. Obviously, it's by plane, but I went to Orbitz website and I'm trying to find a flight in July (I know its early). And they require an adult.....I am a naive boy, but do I really need an adult to accompany me to fly to Boston? Is there any other way to get to Boston with just by myself, flight expenses will be paid so I don't have to worry about that.

From people who went to Boston U Summer Challenge, and from other places outside of MA, how were you guys able to get there?

you do not need a parent to fly with you. I am not sure why you would get that information. I flew in by myself and then from the yahoo group found someone who was arriving at the same time as me to share a cab. You just need to book a flight like normal. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

I'm about to send away my registration and everything. Anyone planning to do the june session this summer?

Omg, good! that was a relief, thank you mel! I guess I'll start to look around for flights hehe
