Summer Program

Thanks for your advice! Even thought her first love is musical theater, she may not be able to go to the musical theater extension, if she is accepted into the program. She usually teaches at a musical theater camp and enjoys both the challenge and the money!

I'm currently a junior in HS and am looking for MT summer programs. NU is in my top 3 schools as of now, and I was wondering if in order to do the MT Extension you also have to attend the Theater Arts session as well. I was looking at the costs associated with NU and though I would love to do both, staying for all 7 weeks wouldn't be possible unless I got a scholarship.

Thanks!

You do need to participate in all 7 weeks. The MT Extension is more competitive to get into but all participants in that program must be in the first 5 weeks. It makes sense when you see that the faculty work with the students throughout and take advantage of the work over the 5 weeks to make the most of the shorter time for musical theatre. It's an intense program and its "alumni" form an impressive network through college and beyond.

Does anyone have suggestions for fund raisers to pay for the summer program?

I want to audition, but I'm worried about the money part.

My opinion would be to get a job and/or create paying jobs for yourself. I would not be inclined to contribute to a fundraiser to fund someone to go to a private summer program. There are ways for you to earn the money through work. You can also create services for pay. You can work part time for this semester, and line up work for the summer weeks when you would not be at Cherubs.

That said, you should look into any local scholarships from arts organizations. Some give money to students for such endeavors. I know my child won a local scholarship that she put toward a summer program one time (didn't pay nearly all of it but was a nice chunk).

You also may find less expensive programs that are of shorter duration.

Ninja, when my son was applying for the program two years ago, I think there were a few scholarships available if there was proven need. You might check into it.
