My daughter took a three week summer program at Brown and did pretty well scoring in the top few students in the class. She is applying to Brown for fall admission. Does the summer program carry much weight for admission? (other background - SAT is 1530, H.S. doesn’t rank but gpa is 3.5 nonweighted 4.1 weighted, is NMS semifinalist, not many extracurriculars). Thanks…

Her participation might be a tip factor, but other than that, I'm not sure it has much weight. I also participated in a summer program there and got a glowing rec, but I don't think it's one of the primary things they consider.

Best of luck.

same, i too have great stuff, but then again, im applying ED elsewhere, what class did u guys take?

I was part of the seven week program for two summers. Many of the seniors I attended the program with in the summer of 2003 were very well qualified and applied to Brown. All were rejected.

The program doesn't carry much weight at all. Its not a selective program, as nearly everyone that applies is accepted. Its a way for Brown to make money and will have nearly no bearing on your daughter's admission decision. However, she does seem to be more than qualified.
