Summer Program

Does atteding a upenn summer program help ones chances in being admitted to the college? If so how much? Also, how difficult is the penn in the summer program for the college, and how difficult is it to get in?

ooh being the expert on penn's summer sessions........ yeah the program can help you only IF you perform extremely well (4.0 in your classes) and cultivate whatever interests you already have or get a sense of what u want to pursue at the college.... it helps the most if you obtain quality recommendations from your professors (i basically had the endorsement of penn's psychology department)...i dont know of anyone being turned down for the program but they only admit 205 kids each summer so i assume there's some degree of selectivity... the courses are typically more laid-back, but don't be fooled cause midterms/finals are hard and graded on standard curves for most part..... and it will help out tremendously with your "why penn" essay.

short response- summer session is awesome, and anything that shows u have interest in the school helps

Which program did you attend, and if the pre-college one, what courses did you take? Also, did you find that it basically took up your whole summer?

precollege... i took psych classes. as far as taking up your whole summer... it depends on if ure living there or commuting - i took the train into the city and scheduled my classes so id only have to go twice a week, so no it wasnt overly time consuming. but i made a lot of friends who lived there so id go like every day to hang out. assuming youll be taking two classes, one of which is every day, id say expect it to be one of ur primary activities.... my advice is dont do it unless you really like philly/penn/interested in the course

How is the psychology department at Penn shorty? I am considering psych. and want to know how it is at the summer school and the actual university.

penn has an incredibly strong psych department... so it's not suprising that all of the textbooks i've used have been written by penn's own professors, like Marty Seligman who actually started his own movement within the field, called Positive Psychology, and i basically wrote half of my why penn essay about how much I wanted to assist with research for it. both undergrad and grad are very reputable - penn actually opened up the first psych clinic like in the country. oh and as a psych student u can easily make like a few hundred dollars a month participating in studies and stuff. like if i end up staying at penn for grad, it would prolly be for their psych and neuroscience (well, BBB) departments.

I love psychology to study, but im also concerned about the pay, cuz i dont wanna live off of foodstamps or anything lol, (im sure i wont), hows the pay for psych. when you get a job?
