Does the MMA offer a summer program similar to West Point, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard ?

Can you be more specific?

For starters, our summer "break" is only 5 weeks long and four of those weeks are officer training (two weeks) and indoc (two more weeks). This means that there is only three weeks between graduation and the time that the new class arrives, so there is very little idle time at the academy. Also, the campus is closed to visitors during indoc.

There is summer school, but if you're there, that means you screwed up somewhere.

USMMA does not offer an SLS like USMA. The program at Kings Point is very compressed due to the Sea Year, essentially combining four years of academics into three. So there's not much time for a summer program to offer HS juniors.

I think you are referencing the AIM (Academy Indoctrination Mission) programs that the other academies offer. It is the one week program that enables selected applicants to get a taste of the academy life. The answer is no, but if you attend another academies AIM program, your fitness report can be submitted to USMMA. My son attended USACG AIM and his Fit Rep was part of his application.

My Daughter applied to USMMA, and she attended last summer's AIM at CGA. The CFA for the USMMA is very from the PFE they do at CGA. Looks like we will be visiting USMMA next month....

camillethecat, your best bet to get a feel for Kings Point is an overnight visit. The plebes with whom your student will stay will fill your student in about Indoctrination and plebe year. Your student will come away with a better understanding of USMMA and its challenges. Details for a visit: United States Merchant Marine Academy
