has anyone here ever been involved in carnegie's apea summer program?? i'm thinking about doing it this coming summer but i was just curious as to what input people had on this...thanks! :)

We are looking at it for out daughter. I think it is a very good program. However, be warned: it can be a double edged sword in your favor or against you. In a number of cases, some of the faculty are on the admission's committed. Thus, if you do well, it can help your admission's chances. If you do poorly, you can basically cross CMU off your list.

I attended pre-college apea this past summer. I think it is the greatest opportunity you can partake in to get you ready for college. I loved the whole atmosphere of the college life. The people were great, the classes were great, the experience was great. The only thing subpar was the food, but it was tolerable. I at first wanted to take three classes but found it to be to much and dropped down to three. I took calculus 1 and intro/interm. programming. I havent heard anything about the teachers being on the admissions comittees but that doesnt mean much. Unless you are taking a class like ECE (electrical and computer engineering which had a TON of HW.) you will have alot of free time which is nice if you a hobby. I enjoyed the free time and played guitar about two to three hours a day. Some people who didn't have rooted hobbies seemed to be bored. The free time lets you explore Pittsburgh however. If you have any questions I can try to answer them... email me at cbb2@andrew.cmu.edu
I will try to answer any questions I can.
