Hi. I am currently a freshman at Loyola Marymount. I was wondering about doing a summer program at U of Texas-Austin. However, I just had a question or two about it. 1) Can anyone offer a review of some sort of this program and 2) Is the campus dead during the summer program? I wouldn't want to go there and not have any peers there. Thanks.

There will be some students around for summer session. It is not dead, but it is quieter than usual.

Are you just planning on taking summer classes at UT? I’ve never heard of a “summer program”.

Also, it is going to be HOT. Good for swimming, bad for any other kind of outdoor activity in the daytime hours :)

Hi eyebeg.
Are you talking about TASP? My son was looking at that too. Neither of us really liked what we read on CC about it, though, so he’s not going to do it. He just didn’t think it was his type of crowd.

There’s a whole summer program section on CC. Did you see it? Go to “Discussion Home.” Scroll to almost the bottom of the list and find something like “Pre-College Issues.” At the bottom of THAT list is “Summer Programs.” There’s a very long thread on TASP, and there are other threads we looked at too – maybe even one on UT Austin’s specific program. Can’t remember all the details. I just remember thinking after reading the threads that this probably wasn’t for my son.

Good luck!

Oh … rats … I just realized you’re a college freshman! So you’re not looking at TASP! Sorry. I screwed up!
