Did anybody else receive a letter in the mail about this today? I'm wondering what the actual cost of the program is. I can't believe that it's just $50.

As an aside, if anybody from the University/college is reading this... Wouldn't it be a little more economically and environmentally friendly to to one large package instead of 2 large packages and a half dozen regular envelopes? Mind, I'm not complaining that I got my mailbox stuffed with mail from a great college, but I can't imagine how much money postage just cost...

Yeah, I got that letter. It says the application costs $50 and the brochure says the program is $3700.

^Oh, must have skipped that part… I was running on 2 hours of sleep before taking a nap.

Thanks!

The program you’re referring to is FSAP! While I didn’t participate, I have many friends who did and who enjoyed it greatly! You have the opportunity to spend the summer already establishing a community for yourself at WashU, because when you start in the fall you will already know the other FSAP participants.

if the cost of FSAP is an issue for you, there are also ArtSci Summer Weekends (if you’re in A&S) and the Pre-O programs, both of which are good ways to start meeting people too
(you can register early for courses at the ArtSci weekends, as well)

I did fsap last year and really really didn’t want to do it. I didn’t think I would want to give up my last free summer to go do schoolwork because I figured it would suck. However my parents convinced me to do it and I grudgingly agreed. As far as money goes, it’s 6 credits for under four grand… Think about that, it’s $25000 for an average of 15 credits the rest of your four years, so technically fsap should cost more than double what it does. Plus it was actually A LOT OF FUN. It’s a great way to meet new people, plus everyone there is in the same boat as you, and STL has a lot of fun things to do during the summer.

Needless to say I highly recommend FSAP. DO IT. PM me with any more questions.

FSAP has financial aid. They didn’t post a number this year, but last year they reduced the cost to $500 for any student receiving significant financial aid to attend the university. I believe - but am not 100% sure I’m remembering this correctly - that those students who were low-income also received summer earnings potential compensation. Things may have changed this year, but it can’t hurt to apply. If I were going to choose WashU, I would definitely do FSAP.
