Summer programs AFTER high school?

Basically, I am a high school senior and I realize that even though I am going to college next year, I want to keep myself busy this summer and do the things I was not able to do the summers before.

One thing I was mainly thinking about was research. I applied to several programs last summers but denied at all of them sadly and emailed over 30 professors over the past two years but they all declined.

So can anyone recommend any summer research programs for me cuz I would really like to have some sort research experience.

What are you interested in majoring in? I am a senior also, but the best summer programs would probably go with your major.

Im majoring in Biology so anything related to that will be good

Try this I know a friend of mine interested in genetics and biology who attended a great summer program.

Smith’s College Summer Science and Engineering Program

June 30–July 27, 2013

The Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program (SSEP) is a four-week residential program for exceptional young women with strong interests in science, engineering and medicine. Each July, select high school students from across the country and abroad come to Smith College to do hands-on research with Smith faculty in the life and physical sciences and in engineering. Girls who will be in high school (grades nine through 12) in fall 2013 are eligible to apply for the summer 2013 program.

Sample Course:

Population Biology: An Introduction to the Genetics and Ecology of Natural Populations

I heard about that one but I dont qualify since I wont be in high school in fall 2013 :/

Oh  Well I hope it works out for you. Your location says you are from New York, and since I am from New York, I know there are many great hospitals including Columbia Presbyterian who I am sure would not mind involving you in some program.

Thanks I’ll definitely look into that
:)

Not a problem :). What part of New York are you from and do any schools in the city interest you? I assume the bio is for a medical field

Im from Long Island but I go to the city often so Im definitely interested in NYU and Columbia for medicine which is why I applied to those schools so hopefully I get in :)

Awesome Im originally from Manhattan Uptown in the city. In the city I am interested in Pace and Hofstra for political science and Law. Since you applied early you should get a decision soon, and best of luck getting in  I just joined CC would you mind being added as the first friend?

Sure I’ll add you

Awesome! What motivated you to enter the medical field?

Lol! yeah now it is a convo but I have to put up 15 posts for private messaging. Email is the only other option. That’s pretty inspiring considering most people would be a doctor for the financial benefits but you want to help others. What else would you consider besides a doctor?

Really!? Thats a weird rule that they have!! oh CC! haha
but yeah I was thinking maybe a pathologist or a researcher or some job where I can work for the World Health Organization. So the possibilities are pretty much endless for me

Yeah its strange! With a career field like medicine there are so many options so you are right it is endless for you

Exactly so Im not worried about what exactly what profession I will have in the future since I’ll figure it out when the time comes.

But I guess you have your plans mapped out to maybe be a lawyer in the future right?

More or less. Ive been into history all my life, so I know im majoring in Political Science for sure. I have always wanted to be a lawyer but I have options such as a teacher, judge but i agree cross the bridge when you get there.

Nice! Do your rents work in the PolySci field?

Not at all. Many in my family have aspired to be a lawyer or in such a field and for whatever reason did not. I want to achieve my goal especially in the Poly Sci field.

Wow thats pretty much the opposite for my family since a lot of my aunts and uncles work in the medical field so now my dad is hoping my sisters choose another field so we can get more variety! Lmaoo but you seem pretty determined to me so you’ll probably be the 1st unless you have any older siblings then they might beat you to it
